“These drawings combine botanical and environmental details with intuitive interpretations of the landscape,” says Hinebrook. “In this work, I am searching for ways to re-establish communication with the natural world and to express the flow of energy, awareness, and interconnected life moving through it.”

Urban Nature examines seasonal cycles, botanical structures, color, texture, and the intricate patterns that shape the urban landscape. Through an embodied drawing practice, Hinebrook records dynamic urban ecologies shaped by observation, memory, and perception. The drawings document shifting light, seasonal transitions, plant systems, organic structures, and recurring natural patterns observed across changing seasons.

Created through a decade of observational drawing in New York City’s parks and gardens, Urban Nature examines seasonal cycles, botanical structures, color, texture, and the intricate patterns that shape the urban landscape. The works reveal nature as a dynamic, interconnected system animated by rhythms of growth, decay, renewal, and transformation. Through expressive line, layered color, and evolving organic forms, Hinebrook emphasizes the hidden structures, energetic flows, and recurring patterns that connect all living systems.

Since childhood, Hinebrook has experienced nature as sentient, spiritually alive, and deeply magical. This perspective informs a practice that merges observational drawing with embodied perception, memory, and sensory awareness. Working across changing seasons, she draws attention to subtle shifts of light, color, atmosphere, and nature’s life cycles that often go unnoticed in everyday urban environments.
